Digital innovation and technology have a key role to play in enabling this ambitious strategic vision, through the delivery of responsive, digitally enabled services that adapt well to change and which are designed around the needs of the users of our diverse range of public services. 

The Role

Reporting to the Head of IT and Digital Services, Southwark Council’s new Head of Digital Delivery will be accountable for leading the design and delivery of the Council’s ambitious and exciting, digital transformation programme. They will play a key role in enabling the business to achieve it’s strategic  objectives through a ‘digital first’ and ‘user-centred design’ approach to transformation, building and maturing Digital capability to deliver exceptional results.

Visible, effective and efficient delivery of this complex programme of work is of critical importance to the Council and it’s diverse range of stakeholders. The Head of Digital Delivery will be expected to put in place a comprehensive programme governance framework, with clear deliverables. Working with services across the Council to support them on their digital transformation journey, is at the heart of role, as is re-imagining traditional service delivery to transform and enhance the customer experience whilst reducing costs, whether it’s through improving how the Council interacts with it’s customers, by increasing engagement and productivity or in creating new service opportunities.

The Person

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a proven track record of success in the delivery of innovative, digital products and services at scale, within a complex, data driven, regulated operating environment. They will possess strong programme delivery expertise, with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams – Digital/IT/Business across an organisation, delivering tangible results on the ground in the transformation of the customer journey and experience. They will be a passionate, pragmatic advocate for business change, with the ability to build a broad-based stakeholder ‘coalition of support’ for digital transformation.  

The successful candidate will be expected to be able to work autonomously, knowing when to escalate specific issues and/or seek Executive level support, whilst effectively managing competing interests, resources and priorities. Resilience is a key personal quality required of the post holder, together with a collegiate approach to working with internal and external partners, demonstrating exceptional people leadership skills and pride in having empowered others to succeed.
